OUR STORY

A Story Written in the Forest

How a childhood fascination with distant blue mountains became a lifelong journey into the wild heart of the Western Ghats.

Before Nisarga, There Was a Mountain.

Some journeys begin with a destination. Mine began with a fascination.

Growing up in Chennai, I was a ten-year-old boy fascinated by the distant blue mountains of Courtallam. Life eventually took me into a corporate career, and that childhood wonder quietly faded into the background — until a solo journey to the Nilgiris brought it all back.

On the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, I met Gopi Uncle, whose simple reflections on finding peace in nature changed the way I looked at the world. That conversation stayed with me for nearly two decades, reminding me that nature is not merely somewhere we travel to; it is something we experience, learn from and carry within us.

Over the years, my curiosity grew into a deep connection with forests, mountains and the extraordinary stories of the Western Ghats.

Nisarga was born from that connection.

Together, we envisioned a way for people to experience nature beyond the usual trails and destinations — to slow down, discover its hidden stories and connect with the wilderness in a more meaningful way.

Today, as Co-Founder of Nisarga Wilderness Experiences, I invite you to explore the landscapes that have shaped my journey, from the Nilgiris to Silent Valley and the Anamalais. What began as a childhood fascination has become an invitation to discover nature for yourself.

Welcome to Nisarga. Your journey into the wild begins here.

After the journey

We share species notes, photographs and ways to keep supporting the landscapes that hosted us.

What Travellers Say

A quiet day that stayed with us

“Beyond the Tea never felt like sightseeing. Pradeep helped us hear bulbuls before we saw them, and even my parents were comfortable through the whole day. The food stops, pace and stories made the Nilgiris feel intimate rather than crowded.”

Beyond the Tea

Careful, knowledgeable, never rushed

“On the Anamalais Canopy Trail, guide Nandha read the forest with such patience. We watched elephants from a respectful distance and the team handled every permit, meal and transfer smoothly. It felt safe without losing the thrill of being in wild country.”

Anamalais Canopy Trail

Perfect for our school group

“Lakshmi turned Silent Valley into a living classroom. The students spotted lion-tailed macaques, sketched leaf shapes and asked better questions by the hour. Nisarga managed the group gently, with clear briefings and enough pauses for everyone to absorb the forest.”

Silent Valley Immersion

Thoughtful from first call to return

“I joined the Nilgiris trail alone and never felt out of place. Suresh made sure beginners and photographers both had time, especially when a Nilgiri langur appeared near the shola edge. The whole group was looked after with warmth and respect.”
